The internal structure of cross roller bearings adopts rollers arranged vertically and crosswise at 90° (which is the origin of the name "crossed roller bearings"). A spacing retainer or separator is installed between the rollers to prevent tilting of the rollers or mutual friction between them, effectively avoiding an increase in rotational torque. Additionally, problems such as single-side contact or locking of the rollers will not occur. Meanwhile, due to the split structure of the inner and outer rings in standard crossed roller bearings, the clearance can be adjusted, enabling high-precision rotational movement even when preload is applied.

In addition to the above performance, cross roller bearings also have the following advantages:

1. Simplified Operation and Installation

The outer ring or inner ring of standard crossed roller bearings is divided into two parts. After installing the rollers and retainers, they are fixed together. During installation, the ideal load state can be achieved by fine-tuning the connecting bolts and fixing flanges, making the installation operation very simple.

2. Capable of Withstanding Large Axial and Radial Loads

Because the rollers are arranged perpendicularly to each other via a spacing retainer on the 90° V-groove rolling surface, this design enables cross roller bearings to withstand large radial loads, axial loads, and moment loads in all directions.

3. Significant Space Saving in Installation

The dimensions of the inner and outer rings of cross roller bearings are minimized to the greatest extent. In particular, the ultra-thin structure achieves a near-ultimate compact size while maintaining high rigidity. Therefore, they are suitable for a wide range of applications, such as the joint or rotating parts of industrial robots, the rotating worktables of machining centers, the rotating parts of manipulators, precision rotating worktables, medical instruments, measuring equipment, IC manufacturing devices, etc.

4. Diverse Derived Types and Structures

To meet various application scenarios, many cross roller bearings with different structures have been derived based on the basic type, suitable for occasions with different requirements. Generally, they can be classified into: basic crossed roller bearings, high-rigidity crossed roller bearings, and ultra-thin crossed roller bearings. In terms of external structure, they can be divided into split inner ring type, split outer ring type, and integrated inner and outer ring type. In terms of internal structure, they can be divided into full-complement roller type, metal window-type retainer type, and nylon or metal separator type.
