President Xi Jinping Inspects Advanced Manufacturing Development in Luoyang Bearing Factory
On May 19, 2025, Chinese President Xi Jinping conducted an important inspection tour of Luoyang City in Henan Province, with particular focus on the development of advanced manufacturing capabilities in the region. As the General Secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and Chairman of the Central Military Commission, President Xi's visit underscored the national leadership's commitment to technological innovation and industrial upgrading.
During his comprehensive tour of Luoyang Bearing Group Co., Ltd., one of China's leading industrial enterprises, President Xi engaged in detailed discussions with engineers, technicians, and frontline workers. He meticulously examined the company's latest technological breakthroughs in precision bearing manufacturing, which play crucial roles in aerospace, high-speed rail, and other strategic sectors.
The President demonstrated particular interest in how the company integrates digital technologies with traditional manufacturing processes. He observed automated production lines where smart manufacturing systems significantly enhance both productivity and product quality. Company executives presented their roadmap for achieving complete digital transformation by 2030.
In his conversations with employees, President Xi emphasized that "advanced manufacturing constitutes the backbone of a modern economy" and encouraged the workforce to "maintain the spirit of craftsmanship while embracing technological innovation." He spent considerable time with young engineers developing next-generation bearing solutions, praising their dedication to overcoming technical challenges.
The inspection included a demonstration of the company's research and development capabilities, where President Xi witnessed testing procedures for bearings designed to withstand extreme conditions. Technical staff explained how these components meet the demanding requirements of China's major infrastructure projects and high-end equipment manufacturing.
During roundtable discussions with local officials and enterprise representatives, President Xi received detailed reports about Luoyang's broader efforts to transform into a hub for advanced manufacturing. The city has implemented comprehensive policies supporting technological innovation, including tax incentives for R&D investment and special funding for equipment upgrades.
The President stressed the importance of integrating industrial chains, suggesting that enterprises should strengthen cooperation with both upstream suppliers and downstream customers. He particularly highlighted the need to cultivate more "little giant" enterprises - highly specialized SMEs that dominate niche markets with cutting-edge technologies.
As part of his inspection, President Xi also visited supporting facilities and adjacent enterprises in Luoyang's industrial park, gaining a holistic understanding of the local manufacturing ecosystem. He examined how clustering effects benefit small and medium-sized manufacturers through shared technologies and supply chains.
Before concluding his visit, President Xi delivered important instructions to provincial and municipal leaders, urging them to "seize the historic opportunities presented by the new round of technological revolution" and to "cultivate more national-level manufacturing innovation centers." He reaffirmed the central government's support for Henan Province's industrial transformation and expressed confidence in Luoyang's potential to become a model for high-quality manufacturing development.
